Bafana Bafana brought back hope to South Africa after beating Angola 2-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Wednesday.

The first goal was scored by Siyabonga Sangweni in the first half and the second one by Lehlohonolo Majoro in the second half.

Their win has restored South Africa’s faith in Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund. Although Igesund kept trying to restore hope to South Africans, saying Bafana Bafana had the potential to win Afcon, many people were starting to lose hope as the national team hadn’t been performing very well in the past few months.

Last week they played mediocre soccer against Cape Verde. Fortunately for them, Cape Verde also did not seem to have any serious intention to win the game so it ended in a 0-0 draw. Before that, Bafana hadn’t performed well enough in friendly games to convince South Africa that they were ready to successfully compete in the 2013 Afcon tournament.

Their win against Angola may have a very positive impact on their performance in their upcoming matches. In their match against Morocco on the 27th, they are likely to receive more support than before, which will significantly boost their confidence and improve their chances of winning. Morocco has not won any match so far. They played 0-0 against Angola on the 19th and 1-1 against Cape Verde on the 23rd.

South Africa is currently sitting on top of the group A log with 4 points. Behind them are Cape Verde (2 points), Morocco (2 points) and Angola (1 point).

Comments on social networks and radio stations indicate that Bafana’s win has pleased many South Africans. Them now believe that Gordon Igesund has finally blended a winning team that is likely to go far.

Angola was very weak. They should have been beaten by 4-0. Anyway, let’s see if Bafana will beat Morocco. That’s when I’ll be excited. For now, it’s too early to celebrate.
