In a very private function, Hollywood star actor, George Clooney tied the knot with his long time human rights lawyer fiancée, Amal Alamuddin at a classy resort hotel in Venice, Italy on Saturday. The announcement was made by Clooney’s representatives Stan Rosenfield after the ceremony, immediately sending the media fraternity, in particular the paparazzi and tabloids, into a frenzy. The couple reportedly spent Friday evening celebrating with their respective friends. Thirty-six year old British-Lebanese Amal spent the day with her sister, Tala and mother, Baria together with a small group of women. On the other hand, fifty-three year old George Clooney painted town red with friends drinking tequila.

According to information that had been gleaned off the secretive couple some months before, the wedding had originally been planned to be held at the local council offices on Monday afternoon in a civil ceremony which originally had been expected to be officiated by former mayor of Rome and a close acquaintance of Clooney. However, in a plot twist that would have left some Hollywood directors green with envy, the wedding itself was held at the seven-star hotel Aman Canal Grande. What has resulted in sketchy details about the wedding, according to a local newspaper, is that staff at the hotel have signed a non-disclosure agreement and could not reveal anything. Further information has emerged that all staff were required to attend the function. Those not required for the function were locked in a room without their mobile phones in case they leaked information to the media. The paper also reported that the couple also requested last minute changes to the hotel decorations, adding more antiques to the hotel’s already historic appearance.

The nuptial celebrations, which are expected to last all of four days are said to have attracted Hollywood heavyweights such as Brad Pitt, who recently wedded long time partner, Angelina Jolie, Robert De Niro and Matt Damon in addition to the said bestman, entertainment entrepreneur Rande Gerber and his wife, supermodel, Cindy Crawford, fashion magazine editor, Anna Wintour and U2 frontman Bono.
