Smanga Khumalo— Hardly before the end of women’s month, a farmer was arrested for allegedly beating up three traffic officers in Ventersdorp, in the North West today. The 52-year-old male motorist apparently attacked officers who were on duty at a roadblock on the R30 between Ventersdorp and Derby, public safety department spokesman Lesolang Simon Mmope said in a statement.
It is believed they discovered his licence disk had expired in 2007, and asked him to get out of his car so they could fine him. The farmer allegedly punched the officers and drove off. They called for back-up and he was caught about 1km away.

He was arrested and charged with obstructing a traffic officer in the performance of her duties, and assault. The three officers were admitted to the Ventersdorp provincial hospital. The farmer was expected to appear in the town’s magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
