“Chiefs Can’t Win Two Matches Against Us, We Will Fight” – Lucky Lekgwathi

SOWETO giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have a date on Saturday and the Sea Robbers’ captain, Lucky Lekgwathi has vowed that they will not settle for anything less than a win when they clash against their arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the 1st leg of the MTN8 semi-finals at FNB Stadium on Saturday at 15h00.

The reliable captain of the Sea Robbers, said giving away the Carling Black Cup to Amakhosi few weeks ago is what has triggered them to want to thrash Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Speaking to Orlandopiratesfc.com, Lucky Lekgwathi, who’s hoping for luck on Saturday, said: “The Derby is a match that is part of the history of South Africa. We lost in the Carling Cup but now the demand from everywhere is bigger. Chiefs can’t win two matches in a row against us. We will fight.”

The 37 year old defender acknowledges that they will not be able to accomplish their mission of paying revenge to Kaizer Chiefs without the support of Orlando Pirates fans. “The fans must just come in numbers and support us,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs will attend Saturday’s meeting with an upper hand as they have lifted the MTN8 cup 14 times, thus remaining the most successful club in this competition.

Although Kaizer Chiefs are respected for their achievements in the history of the MTN8 Cup, head Coach Stuart ‘Stu’Baxter has warned his troops against complacency, saying  history doesn’t count in the Soweto Derby. “Current form and past results do not count in the Soweto Derby. It will be an all new ball game,” said Stuart.

According to the PSL tickets are still available for the much-anticipated Soweto Derby. Many eyes are attracted to the Soweto Derby, but also battling for the R8 million rand which is at stake are Wits University and Platinum Stars, whose clash is scheduled for Sunday at Royal Bafokeng Stadium at 15h00.
