A Durban man who allegedly robbed, kidnapped and attempted to kill his wife by strangulation has been arrested by private security company Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) in Coffee Bay, Eastern Cape, together with his three accomplices.

The 37-year old man is alleged to have robbed his wife (34) of her jewellery and a GWM vehicle, kidnapped and strangled her with the assistance of two other people on Saturday, 13 April 2024.

One of the men is said to have attempted to dump her body in a sugarcane field in Umzinto but the woman regained consciousness and jumped out of the vehicle she was being transported in. The man then fled the scene fearing arrest.

The following day the woman contacted RUSA requesting assistance with this matter. RUSA officers found her vehicle in rural Umzinto on Monday.

On Tuesday, RUSA managed to track down the three suspects and found them hiding in a one room house in Coffee Bay. The suspects were then detained at the Coffee Bay SAPS.

Earlier today RUSA reported that a high-ranking member of the SAPS was heard in a recording contacting the families of the three suspects in an attempt to solicit a bribe to help them escape from custody. As a result, “Reaction Officers, the victim/wife and witnesses in this matter have been placed on high alert.”
