South African soap opera 7de Laan has been cancelled after 23 years on our screens. This marks the end of an era for South African television viewers, who have been tuning in to the show since it first aired in 2000.

7de Laan is a popular show that focuses on the lives of the residents of the fictional Hillside suburb in Johannesburg. It features a diverse cast of characters and explores issues such as race, gender, and class. The show has been praised for its positive portrayal of South African culture and values.

It has been reported that the SABC’s tight budget is the reason the show got cancelled. Fans have taken to social media to express their sadness at the news. However, the good news is that the show will continue to air for the next five months. If there is no change in plans, the last episode will be aired on the 26th of December.

I feel it is very unfair, that the “BUDGET” can sustain other “DIVERSE” sopies and yet,, an Afrikaans ICONIC, well known, very helpful sopie is being cancelled. Where is the EQUALITY in the SABC??
