If there is one man who has made no secret of the fact that he wants to take over the world, it’s Kanye West. With each album, Kanye West goes through a metamorphosis of sorts and always emerges an evolved artist. His latest studio offering ‘Yeezus’ shocked some and for others, it confirmed that West is revolutionary and refuses to ‘play it safe’. The ‘Yeezus’ album landed on the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 in the first week of its release.
The launch celebrations were short-lived as album sales plummeted in the second week. From over 300 000 copies sold in the first week to 65 000 in the second week, West is not happy with where these figures place him in music history. According to the Huffington Post, this drop in sales comes in at fourth place on the list of the biggest drops in album sales from the first week of release to the second. Madonna’s ‘MDNA’ slumped by a disappointing 86.7 percent last year and in 2011, Lady Gaga was another first-rate celebrity that felt the heat. Her ‘Born This Way’ album sales dropped by 84.28 percent. Just above Kanye West, in third place, is Mac Miller’s ‘Blue Slide Park’ album which slid down by 82.54 percent.
As usual, Kanye West succeeded in fuelling the hype around his album by choosing the title ‘Yeezus’ and Christians went to town on the controversial artist. West was also recently accused of spreading the love a little too much by enjoying the charms of model Leyla Ghobadi. Ghobadi claims she has been in West’s bed twice since he started dating Kim Kardashian with whom he now has a child.
Yahoo News reported that Kardashian, who is also never far from the public eye, arranged a special surprise for West after baby North was born. West believes it is up to him to take over where the late Steve Jobs left off at Apple. Kardashian, being the thoughtful girlfriend, arranged for Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, to meet with West to discuss West’s vision for Apple. Kanye West is quoted as saying: “I honestly feel that because Steve has passed, you know, it’s like when Biggie passed and Jay-Z was allowed to become Jay-Z… I will be the leader of a company that ends up being worth billions of dollars.”
It looks like Kanye West is destined to make more happy trips to the bank if Steve Wozniak’s remarks about the meeting are anything to go by. Wozniak said that he had “an excellent conversation” with West and he is considering the things they discussed. Love him or hate him, Kanye West is a hard worker who smells opportunity a mile away and this is what sets him apart from others in the industry.
