Morgan Freeman is mourning the death of his step-granddaughter after she was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend early Sunday in New York City, as confirmed by the New York Police Department. E’dena Hines was stabbed multiple times in the torso and the police found her lying on the streets on response to a 911 call shortly before 3 a.m. The 33-year-old was found bleeding and was quickly rushed to the Harlem hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
What led to the stabbing is currently not known and the police have made an arrest shortly after the stabbing. Lamar Davenport, Hines’ 33-year-old boyfriend was charged with murder and the police took him to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation.
Hines was the granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife, Jeannette Adair Bradshaw. Bradshaw and Freeman divorced in 1979 after 12 years of marriage. Hines was studying acting at New York University according to her website and had recently auditioned for a role in an independent movie, and managed to win the role.
When she left Memphis, Tennessee to return to New York she wrote,”My dream has come true and its just beginning. Life can make you want to give up or walk away, sometimes it gives you strength to appreciate when you do get your happy ending.”
Morgan Freeman in a statement said,”The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person,” he said. Investigations are still ongoing for the case against Davenport.
