As the South African entertainment industry was still in shock following the news of the passing on of Zimbabwean born Top Billing presenter, Simbarashe ‘Simba’ Mhere, there arrived news that on the same day, they had been robbed of another entertainment guru, namely, Bojo Mujo.

The music producer and DJ is said to have passed on in Pretoria after a short illness surrounded by his family. There was, however, very little information about the nature of his illness or how long his illness has been but there is speculation among members of the public and in social media circles that the Dj’s disappearance from the public domain may have much to do with his short illness.

According to his manager, Sello Lehlake, the music star died peacefully on Saturday at around 5 am in Pretoria surrounded by his family. He added that even though he was not going to be around, Bojo Mujo, whose real name was Jacky Lehlake, his music would live among his fans forever. He was known for his music like Summer Rain, Hlonolofatsa and Thando Lwami among others.

Despite the fact that several fans prophesed ignorance about who Bojo Mujo was, particularly on Twitter, it was clear that his music was consumed quite a lot, particularly in the townships. However, what has come out very clearly was the lack of recognition that he was accorded. He was aware of it all but he never let all of this bother him much. He even pointed this out and said that it did not bother him as it allowed him to mix and mingle with members of the public at will.

When quizzed about how he had arrived at the name Bojo Mujo, he spun quite an elaborate tale which culminated on how, after choosing for himself the name Bujo Mojo, many people had erred and called him Bojo Mujo which resulted in it sticking. This, in a long way, shows how the man was in the music industry to make his fans happy. He is survived by a son, Koketso.
