The Range Rover Evoque may be just an overpriced eye candy

Yesterday, more than a year after the Range Rover Evoque was released, I finally got a chance to touch it for the first time at the V & A Waterfront in Cape Town. I didn’t test-drive it, I just touched it. Although I am not a huge fan of Range Rover, I started to really like their Evoque model after hearing many people praising it for its unrivaled beauty.

I agree, Evoque is indeed beautiful (see gallery below). In fact, it is the most beautiful Range Rover I have ever seen. However, performance-wise, I suspect it may be a bit disappointing. I’ve just checked out its specs on the official Range Rover website. The 2.0 liter petrol and the 2.2 liter diesel engines have power outputs of 177 kW and 140 kW respectively.

I’ve seen several small cars that are much more powerful than this e.g. the Audi S3 2.0 TFSI (195 kW), Subaru Legacy 2.0 L DOHC 265 hp (198 kW), etc. The retail price for the Range Rover Evoque is around R600 000. I think it is a bit overpriced for a car with such a small engine. I hope I’ll get a chance to test-drive it in the near future. Perhaps I will know why it is so expensive.
