Former Ukhozi FM presenter Sbu Buthelezi has allegedly agreed to pay back the money he owes his clients after being apprehended and confronted by members of Isikebhe Community Forum at his home in Nquthu.
Ilanga News reported that after confronting Buthelezi, Isikebhe forced him to make a video statement in which he apologized for failing to avail himself when they invited him to a meeting earlier this year, and committed himself to pay back the money he owes the Msibi family, apparently within the next 30 days. According to the publication, the former gospel show host said he would pay half of the money he owes the Msibi family on the 30th of this month and the remaining half on the 15th [of July]. Whether he will be able to honor his promise remains to be seen.
It is reported that the Msibi family, also from Nquthu, invested R600 000 in Sbu Buthelezi’s business Abombuso Poultry Investment Group. However, the business collapsed and Buthelezi vanished without paying back their money. The family then reported him to Isikebhe, a group known for using vigilante tactics to bring lawbreakers to justice. After that, Isikebhe invited Buthelezi to a meeting but he never showed up. They then kept him under surveillance for a while, watching his every move. When he visited his home last Friday, he was apprehended and handed over to the chairpersons of the Forum, who had coincidentally convened last weekend for their annual meeting in Nquthu.
Many people have criticized Buthelezi for using Ukhozi FM to defraud people. However, others have come out in his support, with some even sharing his banking details on social media, asking members of the public to donate money to help him pay back his disgruntled investors.
Buthelezi hosted Indumiso, a popular gospel show on Ukhozi FM for many years. Many people were shocked when allegations of fraud against him emerged. Last year, the station decided to terminate his contract to give him time to sort out his business affairs, which were starting to interfere with his job. Since then he has kept a low profile.
