South Africans are still in shock following reports that popular gospel artist Sfiso Ncwane has died. It is reported that he died on Monday around 9:00 at Life Fourways Hospital in Johannesburg. Although details surrounding his death are still sketchy, it is said that he died of kidney failure.
Ncwane, who was one of the best gospel artists in the country, spent some time in hospital last year due to heart problems. After recovering, he reportedly bought his pastor an expensive car to thank him for his prayers, which he believed contributed to his recovery.
Ncwane was one of the most loved and successful gospel artists in South Africa. His music touched millions of people across the country. The passionate singer started singing at the tender age of 8. Although he released many hit songs during his music career, he will be remembered most by Kulungile Baba, one of his most popular songs, which was released in 2010.
Condolence messages have been pouring in on social media since the news of Ncwane’s death broke around midday. Some of his fans are still finding it hard to believe that he is really gone.
President Jacob Zuma is one of those who expressed sadness at the untimely passing of Ncwane. “The passing of Mr Ncwane is a massive loss for the country. His music touched the hearts of millions of people. He was one of the best gospel artists that the country has ever produced, and he left us at such a young age. We are deeply saddened. May his soul rest in peace,” Zuma said in a statement.
On the 27th of November Ncwane attended the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards in Durban, looking healthy and in good spirits. Little did we know that a week later he would be no more.
More details and funeral arrangements will be released in due course.
