This Sunday, South Africans woke up to sad news about the passing of popular television presenter Vuyo Mbuli. Mbuli’s career flourished while he worked for the South African Broadcasting Corporation. At the time of his death, he was a presenter for Morning Live. He also worked as a radio presenter.

Mbuli was a lover of sport in all its forms. It is reported that he was enjoying a rugby match when he collapsed at the Free State Stadium on Saturday. The Cheetahs hosted the Australian Reds for the Super Rugby tournament. Mbuli received emergency treatment at the stadium and when he was stable, he was taken to a nearby Mediclinic hospital. He died early on Sunday morning from what is thought to have been a heart attack. The doctors have yet to confirm the cause of death for the 46 year old Mbuli.

Reports say that the family spokesperson has asked the media and public to allow the family time and privacy to grieve for their loved one. The news of Vuyo Mbuli’s sudden death has come as a shock to his family, friends and colleagues especially because Mbuli seemed to be in good health before he collapsed on Saturday. He first appeared on television screens in 1993 and since then, he became a household name. For years, South Africans tuned in to Morning Live to catch a glimpse of Mbuli delivering breaking news with a touch of his infectious sense of humor.

Social network users have been sending their condolences to the Mbuli family since early on Sunday morning. Politicians and businessmen have also come out to voice their respect for a man who loved journalism and was humble and respectful. Mbuli’s biography on Twitter reads: “It’s not what you say, It’s what you do!” In his case, Vuyo Mbuli will be loved and remembered by many for both what he said and what he did on television.
