There is a possibility of Linda “Mr Magic” Sibiya returning to Ukhozi FM in the near future following the withdrawal of his fraud case against Edcon last month.
It is reported that in 2013 Edcon paid the money to sponsor an event to honour Ukhozi FM legends, which was supposedly being organised by Sibiya’s company. However, that event never took place and the money was used for other purposes.
Following these allegations, Mr Magic’s three-year employment contract with Ukhozi FM was terminated, with two years remaining. Since then he has been fighting to clear his name and get his job back.
A few months after his sacking (in 2014) he joined Vuma FM, a relatively smaller radio station based in KZN. In 2016 he left the station and announced his retirement from radio.
At the end of September 2018, Sibiya’s case against Edcon was withdrawn at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Johannesburg due to lack of evidence incriminating him, Isolezwe Newspaper reported.
Mr Magic, who was hosting the Vuka Mzansi Breakfast show when his contract was terminated, feels that he was dismissed unfairly and wants the SABC to reinstate him. He revealed to Isolezwe that his heart has always been at Ukhozi FM, adding that he would be happy to host any show, even if it airs at midnight.
His fans also want him back on the airwaves now that his name has been cleared. His lawyers are currently in talks with the SABC to discuss his future at the station.
Meanwhile uKhozi FM has suspended one if its DJs, Bheka “Beekay” Mchunu for congratulating Mr Magic on air despite the station having forbidden any comments on this matter.
