South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, has died at the age of 35 after being shot in Durban.

According to reports, the rapper was shot dead on Florida Road in Morningside on Friday night. It is said that Forbes was standing on the pavement outside an upmarket restaurant where he had dined with friends when two gunmen drove by and opened fire around 22:00.

It is reported that AKA sustained six gunshots and died on the scene. Another unidentified male, who is believed to be AKA’s close friend, is also said to have died in the shooting, whose motive is not yet known.

It is said that AKA was in Durban to perform at a nightclub in an event that has since been cancelled following this shocking incident.

AKA is survived by his daughter Kiernan (7), whom he shared with DJ Zinhle, his parents Tony and Lynn Forbes, and his younger brother Steffan.
