Management at the Sandton City mall announced on Thursday that they have begun an investigation into the roof collapse at the mall on Wednesday.

The collapse, which occurred on the bridge between Sandton City and Nelson Mandela square, left one woman injured. The injured woman, who’s ankle was fractured, has undergone surgery and is now recovering in hospital.

It is still unclear what caused the collapse, however Sandton City management has sent out several statements through their twitter account assuring customers that the safety and security of Sandton City’s shoppers and tenants is of the utmost importance. They went on to say that determining the cause of the collapse is their number one priority and will be thoroughly investigated.

As the dust around the collapse settles down, yet another collapse has occurred this time in Pretoria.

Scaffolding collapsed at a construction site, plunging workers 10-15 metres to the ground.

The incident took place on Steve Biko Street, Pretoria.

Five people were injured in the collapse.

Of the five people who were injured, two have moderate injuries while the other three are critically injured. They are all being treated in hospital.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known.
