Veteran Ukhozi FM presenter Sbu Buthelezi has been fired from the station following allegations that he defrauded his clients of their hard-earned money through his investment business.
Buthelezi’s dismissal was announced by the SABC on Tuesday in a media statement which read as follows:
“The Management of Ukhozi FM has decided to terminate the contract of Mr. Sibusiso Buthelezi as an Independent Contractor with immediate effect. This follows several allegations relating to Mr. Buthelezi’s business dealings that brought the organisation into disrepute.
Ukhozi FM management wishes to confirm that the station does not in any way have any relationship with Mr. Buthelezi’s private company Abombuso Investment.
Thembeka Zondo-Cele will continue as a stand-in presenter on Indumiso on Sundays between 09h00 and 12h00 until further notice.”
It is alleged that the award-winning presenter, through his Pietermaritzburg-based business Abombuso Investments, accepted monies from his clients, promising to grow their investments. However, when they contacted him, he was nowhere to be found.
Isolezwe reported last week that some of Buthelezi’s clients waited for him outside the SABC’s offices, wanting their money. He was then asked to take time off and sort out his business issues. His axing comes as a shock to millions of uKhozi FM listeners who saw him as a trustworthy man of God, and expected him to be back on the airwaves in the near future.
Although Buthelezi presented several shows at Ukhozi FM, he is most well-known for Indumiso, a Sunday morning gospel show which he hosted for many years since he joined the station in 2008.
