Manchester City have beaten rivals and defending League champions Chelsea with an emphatic win at home to go top of the log early in the season. Goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho were enough to seal the win at the Etihad stadium in a match played on Sunday afternoon. Chelsea came from a 2-2 draw with Swansea in their opening Premier League game while Man City beat West Brom 3-0 in their first game.

Chelsea were without star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who was serving suspension and had to be replaced by Asmir Begovic. Courtois was shown a red card after fouling Swansea striker Bafétimbi Gomis and Chelsea failed in their appeal of the straight red card. The blues came into the game with star striker Diego Costa but on the other hand City had new signing Raheem sterling, signed from Liverpool, who is a brilliant player.

In the first half each team had chances at goal but the most fell to City and it paid off in the 32nd minute when Aguero scored their opening goal to make it 1-0 to City. Into the dying minutes of the first half both Cahill and Costa got minor injuries, Cahill was mistakenly punched by keeper Begovic while Costa got an elbow at the back of his head by Fernandinho, which got him bandaged. The game ended 1-0 to city after referee added 5 minutes to the clock for injury time.

Into the 2nd half the fans were stunned when John Terry was substituted for Kurt Zouma. In the 50th minute Ramires scored a goal which was later ruled as an offside after celebrations by the Brazillian. Willian was substituted for Radamel Falcao. In the 79th minute Kompany scored the 2nd goal for City through an easy header, beating defender Ivanovic to it. Fernandinho scored the third and final goal for City to seal the win in the 85th minute. City sealed a place at the top of the league table while Chelsea got a point out of a possible six.
