In the balance of the Capital One Cup matches that were played last night, both of them ended in draws in full time which should attest to the level of competitiveness of these games.

In the Newcastle United and Manchester City match, the visitors from Manchester finally managed to put two past the hosts with the first coming as late as nine minutes into extra time from A. Negredo while team mate, E. Dzeko flighted the winner past the hosts just six minutes later. Both teams received two yellow cards for offences deemed cautionable by the referee.

The other match of the day not only went into extra time but had to be settled through penalty shoot outs. The match was finally won by Tottenham Hotspurs 8-7 after the penalties. The hosts, Spurs could have wrapped the match in regulation time had it not been for team mate B. Friedel who scored an own goal. Extra time could only produce one goal each for the teams leading to the additional time.
