Durban businessman Mfundo Gcaba, a member of the well-known Gcaba Brothers, is alleged to have paid a huge sum of money to one of the suspects in the murder of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane a day after the crime was committed.

This was revealed on Wednesday in a sworn statement by investigating officer Detective Kumarasan Pillay, which was read by prosecutor Adv Elvis Gcweka during the bail hearing of five of the accused at the Durban Magistrate’s court.

It is said that on the 11th of February 2023, Gcaba, through his company Bright Circle, made a payment of R803 000 to Mziwethemba Gwabeni, who is suspected to have tracked AKA on the day of his murder and communicated with the other suspects.

Although Gwabeni claimed that the payment was for consultation fees, it is suspected that Gcaba was paying for the murder of AKA.

Gcaba is yet to respond to these allegations. The bail hearing will resume on 02 April 2024.
