Popular gospel singer Hlengiwe Mhlaba survived a near-fatal car accident during the weekend.
According to reports, the accident occurred in Melmoth on Saturday while she was on her way to a show in Ermelo, Mpumalanga.
It is reported that Hlengiwe lost control of her vehicle as she tried to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming car that was driving towards her. Her newly-bought car is said to have veered off the road and rolled three times.
Mhlaba was rushed to a hospital in Empangeni. Initially, it was believed that she sustained serious injuries. However, on Monday it was reported that her injuries were minor and that she was recovering at home after being discharged from hospital on Sunday.
Following the news of Mhlaba’s discharge, Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa tweeted: “We are relieved & happy to hear that Award-winning Gospel Musician, Hlengiwe Mhlaba has been discharged from hospital after a car accident. One of our country’s most iconic gospel artists, many have been moved & soothed by her unique voice. We wish her a speedy recovery.”
