Kickoff reported that 32-year-old Jimmy Tau won’t be playing for the rest of this season. He was on a brink of a comeback after a three-month lay-off because of a fractured left ankle which he got in a clash with AmaZulu on May 19 at the FNB Stadium, but as KickOff.com reported on September 28 Tau’s comeback was delayed after a discovery of a complication.

Chiefs have now revealed their former skipper won’t play a match this season after he underwent surgery on Tuesday.

“Tau has undergone surgery to stabilize a joint on his left foot after tearing a ligament. He was assessed after completing a training session last week. It was initially decided by the medical team that we try conservative management first to try and stabilize the joint with exercise and strapping before further management would be considered.

“Unfortunately the injury did not respond and he had surgery on Tuesday. He will be out for the rest of the season,” Chiefs physio Dave Milner confirmed.
