JAC Motors Port Shepstone has dropped influencer Ngizwe Mchunu as its ambassador following his tribalistic remarks on social media.
In a media statement released on Thursday, 28 December 2023, the company said: “JAC Motors hereby distances itself from the tribalistic and divisive utterances of Mr Ngizwe Mchunu. These utterances are condemned in the strongest of terms.
“As such, we have taken a decision to terminate our relationship with Mr Ngizwe Mchunu and recall our vehicle from his possession.
“Every citizen has a right to live anywhere in South Africa and to freely commute across provinces without prior approval. JAC Motors Port Shepstone embraces this fundamental right of the people of our rainbow nation.”
This comes after Ngizwe hurled several insults towards EFF leader Julius Malema in a video that has been circulating on social media in the past few days. In the video, Mchunu can be heard calling Malema names and telling him to launch the EFF manifesto in Seshego, Limpopo, not in KwaZulu-Natal.
Following his remarks, the red berets met with JAC Motors executives and put pressure on the company to take action against Mchunu. It is believed that this meeting had an influence on the company’s decision to cut ties with him.
The EFF is set to launch its 2024 elections manifesto at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on the 10th of February 2024.
