The day has come for the world to know South Africa’s best song of the year 2023, as decided by the listeners of uKhozi FM, the largest radio station in the country.

The station released the top ten songs of the year at the beginning of December, allowing listeners to vote for their favourite song by sending Ingoma X to 33665, where X represents the letter that corresponds to the song. Below is the list of songs that are competing to be selected as the song of the year 2023:

At the moment, Mthandeni Manqele’s Paris, which has 11 million YouTube views, is the most popular song in the country on social media, followed by Dlala Thukzin’s Iplan (8.4m views). However, there are concerns that Khuzani Mpungose’s Umjolo Lowo, which is less popular than these two songs, may be voted the song of the year due to Mpungose’s own popularity as an artist.

Based on social media comments and statistics, we predict that Ukhozi FM’s song of the year will come from the following three songs:

1. Mthandeni SK Ft Lwah Ndlunkulu – Paris
2. Dlala Thukzin ft Zaba & Sykes – Iplan
3. Khuzani ft Luve – Umjolo Lowo

Voting closes at 12pm today. We  will publish the number of votes that each song received around midnight.
