chelsea-fc-0vChelsea have finally secured a long time coming fifth title with three games remaining as Eden Hazard’s Goal made sure they pulled away with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. Coming into the game, they needed only one more victory to ensure that they don’t let Manchester City retain the title again.

Chelsea so far this season have only lost two games in the league, which put them 13 points ahead of second placed Manchester City. With Chelsea’s win they leave Manchester City and Arsenal fighting for the second spot. Arsenal have two games in hand and are three points behind City. This is Jose Mourinho’s third title in total with the club, but his first since his return in 2013. This now takes his career haul to 22 trophies.

“I could choose another club in another country where it’s easier to be champions, but I chose the most difficult league in Europe… a club where I was happy before. In my country, they say don’t go back somewhere you were happy before because you risk that. So I took that risk. I’m so happy to win another Premier League title,” Mourinho said.

Palace were no pushovers and had also had their chances at goal, but after all it was Chelsea’s day. The match was not really an joyful encounter. One missed penalty kick then a 45 minute goal both from Eden hazard were the major highlights of the match. Hazard once again proved why he is the PFA player of the year, and Mourinho the best manager.

How Chelsea won the league goes back to when they signed major players Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid. The return of Didier Drogba also inspired most wins along the way. Now that Chelsea have sealed the title and a spot in the next UEFA champions league, its down to the other teams to prove themselves. At the bottom, Burnley and Queens Park Rangers look destined for the drop after suffering defeats.
