At least 100 people were killed in Nigeria when a truck carrying fuel tipped over and caught fire. According to reports, the crash occurred after the truck swerved to avoid a collision with oncoming vehicles.

Many of those killed were motorcycle taxi operators, known locally as “Okada”, who raced to fill up their tanks after learning of the crash.

Kayode Olagunju, the commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, said “Ninety three people were burnt to death on the spot. Two died later in the hospital and 18 were seriously injured.”
