Fortuin Nominated for Female Boxer of the Year

By Sinethemba Mandyoli    16-Jan-2017 16:17 UTC+02:00

For the first time in the history of Cape Town boxing, there will be a candidate from Cape Town who is nominated for Female Boxer of the year and female fight of the year at the same time. In the Boxer of the year category she is nominated against her stablemate Leighandre Jegels and former foe Bukiwe Nonina. The difference between Nonina and Fortuin’s records for the calendar being evaluated is that Fortuin has been campaigning and dominating internationally while Nonina’s career has been defending her national Bantamweight title.

Sharadine Fortuin will be nominated for both Boxer of the year and Fight of the year awards after she has successfully dominated the Bantamweight division in 2015 and 2016. She has captured the South African Junior Bantamweight title in 2014 and left it after a solitary defence back in 2015. Lack of competition in South Africa and an international career prospects has led her to relinquish the title. She soon launched her international career and went on to capture the International Boxing Organization World female bantamweight title and also relinquished it without any challenge and is now the WBF title holder in the same division. Fortuin is currently ranked number 8 in the world.

The nomination was confirmed on Sharadene Shee-Nzow’Shy Fortuin’s social media when she was quoted as saying “Nominees for Best Female boxer of the year Shee-Nzow and Baby Lee….Woza 28 Jan”. Another Cape Town nominee will be Deon Dwarte whom is nominated for Male Ring Official of the Year. That is due to him having officiated in almost all the tournaments in the Western Cape, being tasked to officiate in some abroad fights.
